Unveiling True Beauty: Embracing My Body as a Fortysomething Woman

Image
In a society that often celebrates youthful appearances and airbrushed perfection, it's time to redefine beauty and embrace our bodies as women over 40. Our journey through life has left its mark in the form of laugh lines, belly fat, and other imperfections. But rather than viewing them as flaws, I have learned to see them as a testament to my strength, resilience, and the incredible stories they hold. Join me as I share my personal experience of loving my body and skin, embracing its imperfections, and celebrating the beauty that comes with age.   Embracing Laugh Lines: Celebrating a Life Filled with Joy Laugh lines, those gentle creases etched around our eyes and mouth, symbolize a life filled with laughter, happiness, and countless precious moments. They are not flaws to be erased but rather badges of a life well-lived. Each line tells a story—a memory of a joyful occasion, a heartfelt joke shared with loved ones. I embrace these lines as a reminder of the joy th...

What is up with this "Hustle Culture" and Materialism glorification?

Since Covid19 hit I’ve been working from home and it’s been a wonderful experience. My boys are completing Grade 11 via an online private school so we don’t have that early morning stress and rush anymore. They are teenagers so they don’t bother me while I’m working because they are busy with their schoolwork. They also have their PlayStation to keep them occupied and they have chores to do, so I’m very grateful and it’s truly been a blessing. I’m also a very disciplined person so I still get up at 5h30 when my husband leaves for work and I start working at approximately 7h00 every morning. I also go into the office twice or three times a month which is nice because I do miss my colleagues. In recent years I’ve noticed this trend amongst millennials and Gen-Z’s called the “Hustle Culture.” It can basically be defined as, “Work as much and as hard as you can and you will be “successful” and make lots of money.” Blog.runrun.it says this,   “ In a nutshell,  hustle cu...

There is nothing wrong with ordinary...

Lately I've been feeling very unfulfilled with my life...like I'm stuck in the same routine of just getting up, working, cleaning my house, doing the cooking, cleaning...and being a wife, a mom and an employee...I felt depressed and so ordinary... When we are young we have all these hopes and dreams and we think our lives are going to have some sort of major impact on the world. We think we are going to make a change or leave this amazing legacy to our children. And one day you wake up and you are 41 years old working a normal job and living an ordinary life and you feel disillusioned. You think where did it all go wrong, why did I not fulfil my dreams or my "purpose"... I was thinking all these things the past few weeks and then I decided to get down on my knees and pray and speak to God. What I discovered was nothing went wrong in my life, there is nothing wrong with ordinary...I am exactly where I am supposed to be and my life is good. The world we are living in to...

Choosing appreciation and celebration over envy and comparison...

This post is actually a note to self... I woke up full of self-pity this morning. A few weeks ago I fixed a leaking pipe on my Ford Ikon, it's a 2011 model and then I was in a car accident on Saturday afternoon. This woman drove into us while we were stopping at a Stop sign. To top it off her drivers licence and car licence are expired so she should not even be driving. What was supposed to be a lovely family day out with my husband and my twin boys turned into in an unpleasant afternoon at the police station and with phone calls to my car insurance, my mom and my parents-in-law. So this morning when I woke up all I could think of was the excess on my car which is close to R5000 which we don't have and definitely did not budget for. And I just made my last car payment to the bank a few months ago!!! I actually owned my car and not the bank and then this happens! Then I made the mistake of scrolling through social media, I happened to come across a post of one of my Facebook fri...
